Describe the subject, style, colours and T-shirt colour. Ask for a flat graphic, not a photo of a printed T-shirt.
Download the original file, check its pixel dimensions and remove any unwanted background. A screenshot is not a good print file.
Upload your artwork, set the print size and check it on your chosen product colour. Resolve any resolution warnings before ordering.
A prompt is the description you give your image AI. Replace the details in square brackets. Names, numbers and small text are usually best added afterwards in the designer.
Create a standalone print graphic for a [black/white] T-shirt. Subject: [describe your exact idea]. Style: [e.g. a clear retro illustration, minimal line art or a bold sports emblem]. Colours: [2–4 preferred colours], with strong contrast against the T-shirt colour. Composition: [portrait/square], centred, with the entire artwork visible and minimal empty margins. Use clear, closed shapes and distinct details. No hairline strokes or tiny elements. No text: I will add that later. Only the flat graphic: no garment, model, mockup, perspective or watermark. A genuinely transparent background, not a white rectangle or a drawn checkerboard. Coloured areas must be opaque; no semi-transparent shadows, smoke or glow effects. Use the highest available resolution. Where possible, deliver a PNG file with a genuine alpha channel.
Create a clean retro print graphic for a black casual team T-shirt for a motocross crew. Show one motocross rider wearing a helmet on a generic dirt bike mid-jump, framed by a stylised sun and two simple terrain lines. No manufacturer logos or text. Use cream, warm orange and a few bold lime accents. Portrait composition, a dynamic silhouette, strong outlines and large, clear shapes. Keep every part of the artwork inside the image. Generate only the flat illustration: no T-shirt photo, model, mockup or watermark. Use a genuinely transparent background, not a white box or a drawn checkerboard. Opaque artwork; no semi-transparent dust clouds, shadows or glow effects. Where possible, export as a PNG with an alpha channel at the highest available resolution.
Not every image AI produces genuine transparency or large files. Check the result after downloading. Terms such as ‘4K’, ‘print-ready’ or ‘300 dpi’ in a prompt do not replace this check.
For clothing, we recommend aiming for around 300 pixels per inch at the intended print size. Our print partner specifies a minimum of 200 dpi for clothing and at least 400 dpi for other items. Always check the selected product and the designer's guidance too.
| Print width | Required artwork width |
|---|---|
| 10 cm | approx. 1,182 pixels |
| 20 cm | approx. 2,363 pixels |
| 30 cm | approx. 3,544 pixels |
The height needs enough pixels too. These dimensions refer to the artwork itself, not a large empty canvas around it. For example, 1,024 pixels at 300 ppi cover only about 8.7 cm, not a large back print.
Changing the dpi number alone adds no detail. If the file is too small, generate a larger version, print it smaller, or upscale it carefully and inspect the result. Upscaling can magnify errors or invent details.
PNG supports transparency, but a PNG file does not automatically have its background removed. A white background remains a white area. A checkerboard drawn by AI is also part of the image.
Open the file in an image editor and temporarily place a bright colour behind it. That colour should show through between the artwork's elements. Check fine edges for pale halos too. If needed, remove the background cleanly and export again as a PNG with transparency enabled.
A transparent background is useful; semi-transparent artwork is different. Avoid smoke, glow and shadows fading into transparency. A white underbase may show through on dark clothing. Gradients between opaque colours are different from gradients fading to transparency.
JPG is suitable for a deliberately rectangular photograph, but cannot store a transparent background. Simply renaming a JPG file to .png does not remove its background.
Inspect your artwork at 100% zoom and approximately at its intended print size. Are letters, numbers, hands, wheels and outlines correct? Leave space between small elements and avoid extremely thin lines. Asking for ‘vector style’ does not turn a PNG into a vector file.
Text and race numbers are more reliable when added afterwards with the text tool. Check dark artwork on dark shirts especially carefully. Use RGB, preferably sRGB, for PNG files. Screens emit light; fabric, print method and product colour affect the result. A neon or metallic look in an image does not create real neon or metallic printing ink.
This guide helps you prepare your file; it is not automatic print approval. If you see warnings or are unsure about quality, check the file with us before ordering.
